When I first downloaded Evernote to my computer I had no idea how it worked and no intention of learning. However, after seeing Dr. Fogleman use it in class many times, I began to think it may be of use to me. I started exploring what is does and how to work it, and I soon realized it was very simple to use. From there I took off. I began putting everything into Evernote. If I read a random article that I liked I would put it in my “Random Articles” notebook, or if it was something relating to one of my classes I would add it to the notebook. I began using this in my other classes as well. For example, in my communications class I had to write a large research paper, so I used Evernote to keep all of my research easy to access and in one place.
Moreover, I also found a use for Evernote on a more personal level. I have respiratory issues and have a specialist doctor from home that I have to call often to give updates to or switch medication. I was beginning to notice that being away at school made it difficult to stay organized with when I spoke to her last and what she told me to do. I decided to create a notebook on Evernote devoted to my medical history. I started to log every time I called my doctor and would write down what I told her, what she told me to do, and when I would have to contact her again. It made it much easier for me to be able to look back and see everything in one place, rather than a bunch of scraps of paper all over my room. When I went home and saw her in her office I was able to pull up all of my notes on my iPhone and reference our previous conversations. It made the whole situations much easier and more organized.
In my future courses I plan to continue to use Evernote and begin tagging my notes. I did not learn about the tag feature until somewhat recently and therefore have not been using it too much. However, for future courses it will be much easier if all of my notes are tagged. This way if something I learn in a future class related to something I already learned, I can easily access it by going through the tags for that topic.
